first Alcatraz visit: Day or Night?

First time. Day Tour is cheaper and more flexible, Night Tour is more limited and costs more. I am not asking which is “better” in general, what actually changes about the experience enough to justify picking one over the other?

If flexibility matters, Day wins. If the evening programming and smaller visitor numbers matter more, that is what the Night premium is buying.

I'd rather understand one place properly than tick off five. Old buildings, the stories behind them, and plenty of time to linger.

Day gives you the standard island visit and lets you stay until the last Day Tour return ferry. Night is a smaller evening operation with programs/activities not offered during the day.
