Angel Island combo: history gain vs less Alcatraz freedom

History is the reason I am going, not checking islands off a list. The combo gives me Angel Island too, but it also fixes chunks of the day. Is the trade basically “another major Bay history site” versus “more flexible time on Alcatraz”?

The combo is the only Alcatraz City Cruises product that adds Angel Island, but the island order/times are structured by group. If Alcatraz depth matters more than another major site, the ordinary Day Tour gives you more freedom to stay.

I'd rather understand one place properly than tick off five. Old buildings, the stories behind them, and plenty of time to linger.
