drive to Pier 33 or just use transit?

We have a rental car and a morning Alcatraz booking. Parking near the pier sounds expensive and break-ins are mentioned everywhere. Is there any on-site parking at all, or should I just leave the car behind for this one?

There is no parking at Pier 33. Commercial garages are nearby, but the operator itself recommends ride-share/public transport because parking is limited and expensive.

And the source pack specifically warns not to leave valuables in the car because break-ins are frequent in the area.

I'd rather understand one place properly than tick off five. Old buildings, the stories behind them, and plenty of time to linger.
